1b. Finding a Text Editor

You'll need something to write your webpages in. Simpler is better, as you're just going to be writing a few lines of text, and you don't want Micro$oft formatting things you don't want in there. I love Textpad for Windows, which is free for the downloading. Not sure about Macs. If you're on a UNIX system, you can pick from emacs, jove, pico, vi, or vim, and many others -- listed roughly in order of ease of use. Just make sure you know how to open and save files in whatever editor you're using.
